Stanley Cup Historic Champions

Held at the conclusion of each hockey season is the tournament for the NHL's most prized posession, Lord Stanley's Cup. The Stanley Cup Trophy has been awarded to the NHL's best team since the 1926-1927 season when the Ottowa Senators defeated the Boston Bruins, and the Stanley Cup is the oldest professional sports trophy in North America. Historically, the Montreal Canadiens have won more Stanley Cups than any other team with 24, however in recent years the Detroit Red Wings have made the most Stanley Cup Finals appearances winning Lord Stanley's Cup 4 times in 6 appearances since the 1994-1995 season. Following the Canadiens' 24 total Stanley Cup Championships the Toronto Maple Leafs have won 13 Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings having won 10 times.
