Flyers Win 4-1 Snap Preds 6 Game Win Streak

Coming off a lopsided 5-1 loss to the Flames, Philadelphia needed to regroup and have a strong performance against Nashville, winners of their last six games. The Flyers responded with a 4-1 victory to maintain their fourth place hold in the Eastern Conference standings. Joffrey Lupul had two goals and Marty Biron had 31 saves, including some stellar glove saves to preserve the victory. Mike Richards and Claude Giroux also tallied for the Flyers.

Lupul joins five other Flyers with 20 goals this season.

Newly acquired Dan Carcillo wasted little time adding to his league lead in penalty minutes. After a huge hit in the corner on Predators defensemen Kevin Klein, Carcillo dropped the gloves with Greg DeVries. The bout didn’t amount to much, however it did set the stage for the second fight of the evening. Following the next face off, Riley Cote and Wade Belak squared off in a much more entertaining fight, with each landing heavy punches.

As the game settled in, the Flyers lead was 2-0 midway through the third period. At the 7:45 mark of the third, Martin Erat finally got one past Biron to cut the Flyers lead in half. A minute and six seconds later, Lupul deposited his second goal of the game to once again build the lead to two goals. Claude Giroux capped the scoring on a feed from Aaron Asham after a sloppy turnover by the Preds.

Notes: The Flyers played without the services of Danny Briere, who is listed as day to day after reinjuring his groin on Thursday against Calgary. The Flyers continue their 5 game home stand on Tuesday when the Buffalo Sabres visit. Buffalo is currently the 10 th seed in the Eastern Conference
