Coyotes fall to Capitals

The Coyotes had their priorities mixed up in their 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals. Their inability to score on four power plays hit them hard in Saturday's deficit. Phoenix ended up with more penalties than goals as they were called for eight as the Capitals scored two in 11:30 of power play time.

Coyotes' forward Lauri Korpiloski tied the score at one in 13:29 of the first period. The score remained at one until goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov surrendered one to Washington's Eric Fehr.

The Coyotes were awarded a power play with 2:48 to play and had several chances to score from in close, but Washington's Michal Neuwirth added to his 28 saves in his 17 th NHL game. Bryzgalov made 30 saves in his first appearance with the Capitals.

Phoenix had three shots on goal during their five power plays, but had six short-handed shots during Washington's seven power plays. The Coyotes are 6-6-1 vs. teams from the Eastern Conference and 0-2-0 vs. the Southeast Division. They have 11 more games before the NHL suspends its schedule for the Winter Olympics, seven of them on the road.
