Blackhawks defeat Blue Jackets in shootout

The Blackhawks did what they do best Sunday against the Blue Jackets; end the game with a shootout. Troy Brouwer came to the rescue this time as he scored in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Blackhawks a 5-4 victory over Columbus.

Antti Niemi got off to a slow start, giving up two goals form the first four shots.

Patrick Kane bounced back to score in the shootout after injuring his knee in the third period. Kane's goal in the second round of the shootout was matched by Columbus' Kristian Huselius in the third round.

Patrick Sharp had a goal and an assist, a block, and won two of three faceoffs subbing for captain Jonathan Toews.

Columbus set a team record by scoring first in its seventh straight game, but with the shootout loss, the Blue Jackets are just 4-2-1 in those games.

The Blackhawks have scored four goals or more in 27 of the 61 games so far this season, starting off on the right food heading into the Olympic break. Patrick Kane will represent the United States and captain Jonathan Toews, defenseman Duncan Keih, and Brent Seabrook will represent Canada in the Winter Olympics. Marian Hossa will represent Slovakia.
