Ovechkin & Crosby hope to meet in second roundLast year, it was Sidney Crosby’s turn. This year, it is Alex Ovechkin’s turn. The Washington Capitals finished the regular season as the hottest team in the NHL, winning the final seven games and the Southeast Division. Led by the hottest player in the NHL, Alexander Ovechkin, and the hottest goalie in the NHL, Cristobal Huet, the Capitals finished third in the Eastern Conference. The 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs marks young Ovechkin’s first and he started off with a bang. In the first match-up between the Washington Capitals and the Philadelphia Flyers in round 1 of the playoffs, Ovechkin stole the puck from Flyers defenseman Lasse Kukkonen and scored the game winning goal, as Washington defeated Philadelphia 5-4.
Though the Capitals lost game 2, a Capitals playoff appearance led by Ovechkin is great for the NHL. You have two players with unlimited potentials of Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. If the Penguins and the Capitals both win their playoff series, these two will face each other, giving the fans one of the greatest match-ups in NHL history.
